Collection: Jozua Gerrard
Jozua Gerrard, born in Cape Town in 2001, lives and works in his hometown at the intersection of personal memory, cultural heritage, and experimental materiality. His works—mostly situated between painting, object, and assemblage—tell of inner landscapes and the tension between archaic symbols and contemporary identity. Gerrard's artistic style is characterized by intuitive compositions, haptic surfaces, and a profound exploration of origin, belonging, and consciousness.
He first gained attention through his solo exhibition Loveland at Southern Guild in Cape Town, which opened up a deeply emotional visual world. Further presentations followed, including In the Present Tense (2024), as well as group exhibitions in South Africa and the USA – including Mother Tongues in Los Angeles. He has also been a regular exhibitor at international art fairs such as Untitled Art Miami and the Investec Cape Town Art Fair since 2021. Despite his young age, Gerrard is already considered one of the most promising voices of a new generation of South African artists who work introspectively while simultaneously thinking globally.
