Collection: Lilau

Lilau's sculptures are dedicated to bodies. In their strong abstraction, they are less reminiscent of human figurines than of organically grown forms.

The artist works with stone, wood, and metal. Often large, always grounded, many of his sculptures rise skyward in slender growth, while others, as compact structures, are content with their proximity to the ground. Mostly conceived for outdoor spaces, they directly connect with the surrounding nature and man-made objects in their environment. Lilau's works possess their own anatomy and thus follow an order specially created by the artist.

The interplay of light and shadow not only changes the surfaces of the sculptures and their different materials but also encourages the viewer to change position and view them from all sides. For the artist, it is important to consider the surrounding space already during the creation of his works.

Q&A with the artists:

The exhibition ARTIFICIAL? Traces of the Present brings together works that question our perception. Reality appears not as a given, but as something that is constantly being appropriated. ARTIFICIAL? questions whether what we see and experience is not always already made, constructed, and mediated.
