Collection: Moritz Moll

Moritz Moll (*1991) completed his painting studies in 2021 as a master student under Prof. Anke Doberauer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (AdBK). In his paintings, Moritz Moll explores the interstices of everyday life, intimate moments of being unobserved, of drifting off, of concentration. Through sophisticated color compositions and delicate lineament, he transforms the trivial into immediate everyday fetishes, completely permeated by the polarity of tangible and intangible space, two- and three-dimensionality. Using oil, acrylic, and spray paints on canvas, Moll creates an independent painterly system in which surface and line intertwine to form consistent compositions that counteract the transience of the depicted. The source material is based on a collection of clothing and props, some of which have great emotional value, which Moll uses to stage the portrayed subjects – often close friends. In his paintings, Moll moves skillfully within the traditional canon of portraitists and at the same time reveals a new, confident view of the supposedly exhausted genre.
